The lawyer of Juan Fernando Quintero, a football player from Racing Club, issued a statement in which the player demands justice following the arrest of his uncle Alexander Quintero for alleged sexual abuse of minors. The lawyer stated that Quintero, in his capacity as a father and public figure, rejects and condemns the acts attributed to his relative, making it clear that he will neither support nor finance his legal defense.
The statement expressed the following: "Juan Fernando Quintero, as a citizen, demands that swift and effective justice be applied, punishing in accordance with the Constitution and the laws the abhorrent acts attributed by the Attorney General of the Nation." Quintero's uncle was arrested on October 21, accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl and taking nude photographs of her; other reports suggest that in 2023 he may have also abused an eight-year-old girl.
In light of this situation, Quintero decided to distance himself from his relative, showing solidarity with the victims and announcing that he would not support Alexander Quintero in any way. He also requested that his name be removed from the controversy to protect his reputation. Despite the seriousness of the events, the player will not abandon the Racing Club's training for the semifinal match of the Copa Sudamericana against Corinthians, nor will he travel to Colombia.
