Colombian President Gustavo Petro lamented on Saturday the death of at least seven minors in a bombing against dissidents of the FARC in the department of Guaviare (center-south), but assumed responsibility for the attack that killed 20 guerrillas from the group led by Néstor Vera, alias Iván Mordisco. 'Of course, any death of people, and even more so of minors, is deplorable. But if we had let the 50 men of Iván Mordisco, who were advancing through the jungle, proceed, they would have ambushed 20 young soldiers who were at the front just a few kilometers away,' stated the head of state on his X account, in response to the criticism received over the death of minors in the bombing. The Ombudsman, Iris Marín, said today in a statement that at least six of the dead from that bombing were minors, a figure that the Legal Medicine Institute (IML) raised to seven, while confirming that 20 bodies have been received, one more than initially reported.
