Colombian President Speaks on US Flights

The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced on Sunday that he will not allow American planes to enter the country. According to him, the decision made is a response to the US measure to ban flights from Colombia. "The responsible decision to prohibit planes from the USA from landing in Colombia will be made in the coming hours. We will not allow them to destroy the Colombian economy and jobs," Petro wrote in his Twitter.

Gustavo Petro noted that the ban on flights from Colombia to the USA was imposed due to the presence of a confirmed coronavirus infection in a passenger on one of the flights. In connection with this, the international airport authorities prepared a bag search, which was on board the plane. At this time, the President of Colombia communicated that the necessary measures might have to be intensified.

The president also emphasized that Colombia has technical capabilities for COVID testing available on board the plane and will carry out the required checks. Petro added that safety measures will be adhered to for the prevention of infection spread, but at the same time, the country needs support in implementing such measures.
