Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez, one of the country's leading popular music exponents, died this Saturday in a plane crash in a rural area of the department of Boyacá (central region), authorities reported. 'The Civil Aviation deeply regrets this tragedy and expresses its most sincere condolences to the families, friends, and followers of Mr. Yeison Jiménez, as well as to the families of the other passengers and the crew,' the entity stated in a press release. This body confirmed in a statement that the artist was one of the six people on board the plane that crashed between the towns of Paipa and Duitama while flying to Medellín and was completely burned. Jiménez, 34, born in Manzanares, in the department of Caldas, in the center of the country, was one of the most influential artists of Colombian regional music in the last decade and a key figure in the expansion of the popular genre beyond traditional circuits.
