Scientists Make First Discoveries at the Sunken Galleon 'San José'

Colombian authorities have revealed that scientists have extracted a cannon, three coins, and a porcelain cup as part of the first artifacts discovered in the depths of the Caribbean Sea, where the legendary Spanish galleon 'San José' sank in 1708 following an attack by the British fleet. This recovery operation is part of a scientific survey announced by the government last year to study the wreck and the causes of its sinking. Colombian researchers located the shipwreck in 2015, which led to legal and diplomatic disputes, and its location remains a state secret. It is believed that the galleon was carrying 11 million gold and silver coins, as well as emeralds and other precious cargo worth billions of dollars at today's prices. However, the Colombian government states that the purpose of deep-sea expeditions is scientific research, not the salvage of treasures. It is worth noting that the wreck lies at a depth of 6,000 meters on the seabed.
