Colombian President Gustavo Petro warned about a possible plan to attack his airplane with two missiles, acquired by 'the drug traffickers.' According to Petro, this threat is retaliation for his government's actions against the large mafias in the country. During the police command change ceremony, the president stated: 'They want to shoot a missile at me, at my airplane. (It is a missile) that was bought by the drug traffickers and that they have stored somewhere. We know who they are, but we must act.'
Petro had already denounced a plan to assassinate him last year, and now he points out that this new threat is a consequence of his government's fight against Colombian mafias. 'They want to bring me down quickly because they know we are after the big mafias of Colombia and that can scare, yes, of course it scares,' the president expressed during the police command transmission event. Brigadier General Carlos Fernando Triana was appointed as the new director of the institution, replacing the previous one.
The Colombian leader presented these alarming revelations as a warning about the dangers he faces due to his work against organized crime in the country. The relevant authorities have been informed about the situation to take the necessary measures in response to this specific threat.
