President of Colombia Gustavo Petro arrived in Washington, D.C., on February 2nd to kick off his official state visit, scheduled for February 2-5. His work agenda is focused on strengthening the bilateral relationship between Colombia and the United States and defending national interests, within the framework of a foreign policy committed to life, dialogue, and regional cooperation in the Americas.

The Colombian leader will be received by U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, February 3rd, after a year of verbal attacks and tensions that eased in recent weeks. "I begin my intense communication session with the U.S. government, with my meeting with the U.S. Trade Representative," Petro wrote on his X account, where he also called for a march in Bogotá for Tuesday when he meets with Trump.

On the other hand, the Presidency of Colombia informed that the South American leader's agenda in the U.S. includes political, academic, business activities, and meetings with the Colombian community in the United States. Additionally, Gustavo Petro will deliver a lecture on climate change at Georgetown University and hold meetings with cocoa sector businessmen focused on trade, sustainability, and the international projection of the product.
