Two Children Die in Colombia in Freezer Accident

Two siblings, a brother and a sister, died of suffocation inside a large freezer in their family's home in the 'Vista Hermosa' area of Colombia on Saturday evening. The incident occurred when the freezer's lid accidentally closed on them during a game of hide-and-seek. The parents returned home after an absence of no more than 20 minutes and could not find the children. They began searching the house and discovered the children unconscious inside the freezer. They were immediately taken to the municipal hospital, where doctors conducted prolonged resuscitation attempts that were unsuccessful. The victims were identified as 8-year-old Suyori Guevara Tiller and her 5-year-old brother Darian. Their father, Brian Guevara Trebino, confirmed that the freezer was unplugged at the time of the incident, stating that the children entered it during play and the lid closed on them accidentally. The Colombian police have launched an official investigation into the incident. The 'Los Centauros' school, where the children were enrolled, issued a statement mourning the victims and expressing condolences to their family. The municipal government's official statement also noted that the parents left the children alone at home at night, describing the event as 'a moment of carelessness that can turn into an irreversible tragedy'.
