Colombia has suffered its deadliest military aviation accident. An Air Force C-130 transport plane crashed on Monday morning shortly after taking off from Puerto Leguízamo airport. The aircraft was carrying 126 people: 11 crew members from the Colombian Air Force, 113 Army soldiers, and two police officers. The crash resulted in 69 fatalities and 57 injuries. The majority of the victims were Army personnel. The President and military leadership offered condolences, honoring the fallen as heroes who gave their lives for the country. The cause of the accident is under investigation, but the Ministry of Defense ruled out an attack by guerrilla groups. The injured have been transported to hospitals in Bogotá and Florencia.
