Plane Crash in Colombia Kills 15 Passengers and Crew

An aircraft operated by the airline Searca on a flight chartered by Satena on the Cúcuta–Ocaña route crashed with 13 passengers and two crew members on board, with no survivors. According to Colombia's Ministry of Transport, the aircraft descended to an altitude below the terrain of the area before crashing. The minister, María Fernanda Rojas, stated: "The aircraft significantly decreased its altitude and remained at a level lower than the height of the mountains in the area, which generated the collision with the ground." Preliminary analyses did not detect fires or structural failures prior to the impact and confirmed that the aircraft had its documentation and maintenance up to date. The investigation also established that the impact caused the total destruction of the aircraft, whose wreckage was scattered along 145 meters in a hard-to-access area. The plane's black boxes have been recovered and are being analyzed to more accurately reconstruct the final moments of the flight. The final report will be published once the investigation is concluded. The victims included Congressman Diógenes Quintero Amaya, as well as humanitarian workers Maira Alejandra Avendaño Rincón from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and Karen Liliana Parales Vera from World Vision.
