Colombia Implements STEAM Methodology for Early Childhood Development

Colombia's MIDES is rolling out the innovative STEAM methodology across its Early Childhood Care Centers. For just B/.7.00 a year, this program develops children's cognitive, logical, and creative skills from an early age, preparing them for future careers.

Colombia Implements STEAM Methodology for Early Childhood Development

The Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) of Colombia is implementing the STEAM methodology in its Early Childhood Care Centers (CAIPI) to stimulate children's development through practical learning in science, technology, and creativity. This educational transformation aims to maximize cognitive abilities, autonomy, and problem-solving skills from an early age. A case in point is three-year-old Valentina Palma, who at the CAIPI center in Montería is already able to control robots, build interactive models, and use digital boards. Parents report positive changes, noting their children have become more independent, showing logical thinking and a passion for building. Specialists emphasize that up to 87% of the brain develops in the first years of life, making these programs crucial. MIDES is investing in equipping STEAM classrooms across its 95 national centers, with an accessible annual enrollment fee of B/.7.00 and a monthly fee of B/.5.00. This innovative methodology prepares children for the future, where it is estimated that 65% of professions will not yet exist.
