Colombian airline Satena confirmed that the plane that went missing this Wednesday in Norte de Santander department, bordering Venezuela, was found crashed with its 15 passengers on board. The Secretary of Citizen Security of Norte de Santander, George Quintero, confirmed that the aircraft was found by peasants from the hamlet of Curasica in the municipality of Playa de Belén, who informed the authorities that they found no survivors. The plane, operated by the Colombian company Satena, was flying between Cúcuta and Ocaña but did not arrive at the scheduled time at the Aguas Claras airport in Ocaña. According to Satena, flight NSE8849, covering the Cúcuta-Ocaña route, took off around 11:42 am and was scheduled to land around 12:05 pm, reporting its last contact with air traffic control at 11:54 am. The crashed plane is a US-made Beechcraft with registration HK4709 and a capacity of 19 passengers, operated by the company Searca, according to Satena. The flight between Cúcuta and Ocaña takes approximately 25 minutes, and according to the flight tracking platform Flightradar, the plane lost communication while flying over a mountainous area between the localities of Ábrego and La Playa. Among the victims was Colombian congressman Diógenes Quintero Amaya, who was a representative for the Special Peace Electoral Circumscription (Citrep) of the Catatumbo region. He took office in 2022 with the support of communities displaced from forced displacement in that area of the country. Along with the congressman, his assistant Natalia Acosta Salcedo and Carlos Salcedo, a candidate for the seat currently held by Quintero, were also on board. Additionally, local media indicate that other passengers include former Ocaña councilman Juan David Pacheco Mejía and his wife María Sánchez, as well as a merchant and a neurosurgeon from the region. The crew was composed of captains Miguel Vanegas and José de la Vega.
