On October 30th, Nuevo León will have a prominent participation in the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which will take place in Cali, Colombia. Alfonso Martínez, the Secretary of Environment of the state, will take the podium to share the best practices being implemented in terms of biodiversity conservation and environmental protection in the region. The invitation to participate in this event was made by the government of Great Britain.

In this meeting, Martínez will participate in the panel "Challenges and Opportunities of Developing and Implementing Bioeconomy Strategies and Policies" which will take place on the 30th. Alongside him, other experts will include Carina Pimenta, National Secretary of Bioeconomy of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Brazil; Julia Miranda, member of the House of Representatives of Colombia; and Mirbel Epiquién, head of the General Directorate of Biological Diversity of the Ministry of Environment of Peru. The British Government will cover the travel costs for these participants.

It is noteworthy that the British government and the government of Nuevo León have been working closely on the development of the State Climate Change Program, in addition to generating new bioeconomy projects to be implemented in the state soon.

Nuevo León has shown significant participation in the COP in previous years. Two years ago, Governor Samuel García took advantage of the conference to highlight internationally that the new State Constitution is the greenest and most federalist in Mexico, and he also announced the creation of two environmental agencies for January 2023. At that time, García also shared the progress of the State Climate Change Program in Nuevo León and the Monterrey metropolitan area. Accompanied by the Mayor of Monterrey, Luis Donaldo Colosio, the governor emphasized that in Nuevo León, initiatives are being carried out that are exemplary for other states in the country.
