The Colombian police have captured Namoussi Mounir, known by the alias 'Mou', in Barranquilla, a city in northern Colombia. Mounir is accused of being the link between the Balkan cartel and drug traffickers in Latin America, including the Gulf Clan, one of the main criminal gangs in Colombia.
The director of the Colombian police, General Carlos Fernando Triana, emphasized that this capture is the result of joint work with international agencies in the fight against drug trafficking. 'Mou' was wanted internationally through an Interpol red notice, and his capture was coordinated with the authorities of Belgium and the United Kingdom.
According to a statement from the Colombian police, the capture of Mounir has revealed a drug trafficking alliance between the Balkan cartel and the Gulf Clan. The detainee was wanted by Belgian authorities for cocaine trafficking and association with a criminal organization.
Mounir was responsible for sending illegal drugs from the Colombian departments of Córdoba and Cesar to the Netherlands and Belgium. He used sophisticated methods such as metal boxes with magnets to transport cocaine attached to the hulls of cargo ships at sea and tracking devices to monitor the cargo in real time.
It is estimated that through this system, he managed to send between 270 and 300 kilos of cocaine weekly abroad, evading controls by authorities at the ports of Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Antwerp (Belgium). In the coming days, 'Mou' will be extradited to Belgium to face drug trafficking charges.
